Dr. Gravel was my professor at Teacher's College, Columbia University in the mid 1980's. She was wonderful, inspiring, and enthusiastic about audiology and children---some of the characteristics that I strived to imitate in my years as an audiologist and deaf educator. My condolences to the family.

I was also in the class of 1970 at UMASS. Judy was in the charter group of Tau Beta Sigma, a music service sorority. What a wonderful life she had, cut short much too early. Linda Laine Banner ('69) and I send our condolences to her family.

I was very saddened to read that Judy has passed away. Back in the summer of 1969, when I was 12 years old, Judy taught me how to swim. I still have a picture of her and a post card she sent me from UMASS that Fall. She was one of the nicest people I have ever met and although we lost touch after that summer, I have never forgotten her. What a wonderful career she had! I know the angels are watching over you in Heaven Judy.

Dear Bruce,
we never met, but I was so very fortunate to meet Judy at several occasions in the US, Sweden, Italy and Germany. Judy taught me the essentials how to assess the hearing threshold of a 6-12 month old baby through VRA. Her living example at her clinic at Albert Einstein College also taught me that is not mainly a question of money or expensive equipment that leads to a reliable diagnosis of a hearing impaired child but that evidence based knowledge and a lot of personal dedication makes the difference.
I thank Judy for her kind openness to share her profound experience even at a time when she was already very ill. Some of her teachings will remain as cornerstones of my profession and I will not forget her last hug before she went to the airport in Munich April 2009, when both of us knew that we have seen us for the last time in this world.
Thank you Bruce for sharing Judy with all of us.

Bruce,
By total coincidence I was browsing through the New Canaan Advertiser’s web site (which I do about once a year) today, and I was shocked to see Judy’s obituary. I cannot tell you how this news saddens me.
Although it has been some time since we were in touch, I often recall all the fun times we had together, and I can empathize with your loss, as I have been through the same experience.
Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Dan

Bruce,
I was sorry to hear about Judy (saw the article in the Record). I hadn't seen either of you in many years but years ago I was so pleased to hear that you two had gotten together, as you were both such nice people. I always remember Judy and her wonderful smile. What an amazing life and career she had.

With much love and sadness we send you our thoughts.
"Jude" was a good and loyal friend to us back in our High School dating days. She was a bridesmaid at our wedding 39 years ago. Her joy and laughter will always be warmly remembered by "+we-two".

Dear Bruce and family: Words cannot express how much I will miss Judy, and how very sorry I am for your loss. She is one of my heroes and has had a profound impact on me both personally and professionally. Judy's work has an extroaordinary gift to us all, professionally. For me, the greater gift was knowing Judy at a more personal level - her exuberance and joy will always be missed.

To Bruce and family,
We never met, but I have known your dear wife, mother and grandmother since our crazy days together at UMass. We grew up in the Audiology clinic there, went our separate ways, and still were able to pick up where we left off every time we saw each other over the past 38 years. The profession of audiology and the children of the world have suffered a loss that is exceeded only by yours. Best wishes, Judy

Judy was one of the main inspirations that kept me going through my Ph.D. at the MRC Institute of Hearing Research in Nottingham. Her support and encouragement and feedback were invaluable, both during and after my studies. I'll always remember her warm smile, her open spirit, and the lovely hospitality that my partner and I received at her home.

Judy made an extraordinary contribution to the field of pediatric audiology. She was extremely knowledgeable, yet unpretentious, unfailingly humorous and a delight to be with. Both her work and her strength of character will be an inspiration to those who follow. I am going to miss her. Your family are in my prayers.

Dear Bruce,
I remember when I met you with Judy at the ASHA convention. You were a wonderful couple. Judy was the most loving, bright and giving person. It was an honor to know her and to appreciate all that she has done for audiology and children. We will all miss her greatly.
Sincerely,
Susan
