Obituary of Betsy Vandall
Betsy Andronaco Vandall, a longtime resident of New Canaan, died October 3, 2008 at Norwalk Hospital after a five year battle with Leiomyosarcoma.
Born October 2, 1950 in Norwalk, she was the daughter of Edith Andronaco and the late Louis Andronaco of New Canaan. She was a graduate of New Canaan High School in 1968 and the Norwalk School of Nursing in 1973. She worked as a nurse in the recovery room at Norwalk Hospital for nearly thirty years. Her love of nursing was recognized by all whose lives she touched. In May, 2008 she was honored with the Nurse Exemplar Award at Norwalk Hospital for excellence in nursing as recognized by her peers. She also received the Nightingale Award for excellence in nursing. She always sought ways to help those entering the field of nursing. Betsy's greatest legacy, her zest for life and the importance of friends and family, will live on in her children.
She is survived by her beloved husband of twenty-nine years, Peter Joseph Vandall of New Canaan and her children: Peter Ryan and Carolyn Vandall of Norwalk, John Matthew Vandall of New Canaan, Jillian Holmes Vandall of New Canaan, Michael and Kimberly Vandall of Tampa, FL and Matthew Vandall of San Francisco, CA. She is also survived by her sister, Lois Schroder of South Kingstown, RI and her brothers, Joseph Michael Andronaco of South Burlington, VT and Robert Andronaco of Henderson, NV, three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 in St. Aloysius Church, New Canaan at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St. New Canaan, on Monday, October 6, 2008 from 3-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be made to The Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405 and the LMSarcoma Direct Research Foundation, Post Office Box 52697, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74152.
