Dear Kathy and Family, We spent many a cold day with Walt on the side of a Vermont mountain watching Emily and our daughter, Eliza race. Our New Canaan home was a common denominator. He was a lovely man, always with a smile and the kindest, most complimentary words to say about all the athletes out there. Please accept our sincerest sympathies to you and your children. We are so very sorry for this huge loss. Best regards, Mary and John Stichter

Our thoughts and prayers our with you at this tragic time. I have had the honor of being a ski ambassador with Walt for seven years. I could never keep up with him skiing but always had a great time interacting with him on the mountain. He always had the greatest smile and most upbeat personality. He will be truly missed.

The devastating news we recieved last Saturday has left a deep empty feeling. I am thankful we had the pleasure, and the honor of working, skiing, and laughing with Walter, throughtout the years. Walter's love of his family, great sense of humor was always evident. The many stories he shared of his kids lacrosse, the great colleges they attended, the Putney house, ski trips, the "New Ski Boots" he got to pick out for Christmas, and of course his Son's upcoming wedding mad us smile. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Walter's family, IWe clan not imagine their pain. We are truly better people to have had a friend like Walter. Our Ambassador, and MS family have suffered a great "Loss".

My heartfelt condolences to Walt's family, coworkers and friends. His loss is a loss to us all. His ready smile, quick wit and love of his family is an inspiration to live a life full of love and laughter. As a mid week Ambassador I didn't get to work with Walt nearly often enough. However, on those days that we were on the same schedule, he made every one a bluebird sky day even in the most inclement weather. I'll miss sharing my parrothead stories with you!
RIP Walt. May every trail ahead be covered in corduroy! Michele 3M

Dear Kathy and kids, Walt's mother, Ellen, siblings and Walt's entire extended family. Walt spoke of you all with love, My heartfelt sympathy!!!
In such sadness I reflect on the good times we had when lucky enough to be teamed up with Walt as an Ambassador. Yes, he was faster than most of us,yet safety minded and always a gentleman. Chairlift discussions of local events, etc (I let him think he was a local because of your house in Putney) but mostly of his love of family, skiing and lacrosse. I'll never ski "Thanks Walt" again without thinking of him...with gratitude that he was apart of our Ambassador lives.

My deepest condolences to Walt's family. Although you may have not met all of the Mount Snow Ambassadors that had the distinct honor to work and play with your Walt, you are every part of our family and will always be in our thoughts along with Walt. His unique wit and quick smile made him a favorite brother to us all. I will miss my locker neighbor and will always see him eating his breakfast yogurt at our morning meetings. Which is about the only time I did see him because, once we were on the mountain, I could never keep up. He'd always joke, after we were told that we were partners for the day, that he would see me at lunchtime! I'd always respond that I could keep up with him just as long as he made a lot of turns while I just went straight down the mountain without any. We will all miss him greatly.
In honor of Walt, a donation has been made to New Canaan Lacrosse. This donation did not allow notes or names. Please know that this particular donation is from ALL of the winners (and losers) of this years Ambassador's and friends Super Bowl Pool.

I had the luck of being paired with Walt when our daughters were named captains of the NCHS Ski Team. Being relatively new to town, I didn't quite yet understand the special-ness that many New Canaanites feel for their community.
Simply put, Walt was always a delight to work with. He was a fixer, an organizer, a real "mentch"he knew when to use that DeTour smoothness (the sensitive touch he had) and he knew how to negotiate hard when circumstances called for that (all the while hiding his devilish smile). He got things done and he did it all. It's no surprise the team won the States a few times with Walt's involvement (and Emily's aggression on the hill).
Besides that smile and that wit and that charm and that kindness, the thing that really sticks out the most about Walt is the tremendous pride he so profoundly felt for his family and community. That pride and joy he felt was contagious. He was so very proud of his kids. So proud!
Kathy and familyYlva, Alex, especially Amanda, and I share your grief at this painful time. Live up to the example Walt has left for all of us!
WaltThanks for everything you didn't know you taught me, but did. Like I told you numerous times after you put out some Ski Team fire, "You're the best, man...".

Walt was an unforgettable guy. Being around him made me happy - his smile, his infectious laugh - his great sense of humor. Truly a gift in my life. I am shocked and saddened by his passing, consoled only by the knowledge that he is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I will miss Walt so much.

Your family is in our heart and mind. Wendy and I worked at MT Snow with Walt as ambassadors I never got to ski with Walt because he was to dam fast. My wife Wendy was his partner many times. I think they were trying to slow Walt down. That did not work. I have had many great conversations with Walt on the lift and the shack we call the outpost at the top of Mt Snow always about family. His smile could melt snow. Always in a great mood he will be sorely missed by everyone that ever met him.

My deepest condolences to Walt's family. I have had the pleasure of knowing Walt for the last six years as a Mount Snow Ambassador. He was a great friend. I was always thrilled when we were partnered together, and I usually got some nice runs in with him on days that we weren't. Being on Walt's team always meant that it was going to be a fun day. I have spent six years trying to follow in his tracks. Without fail he would just be off with a smile on his face, laughing, and saying "See you at the bottom". The skiing was fun but the talks on the chairlift are what I will cherish most. Walt loved life, his family and skiing. He will be greatly missed.

To the Beloved Family,
Please accept my condolences during your time of bereavement. I am a client of Metasource and worked with Walt daily. Although I am sad to hear of his passing I am thankful that I had the opportunity to work with him. His sense of humor and contagious laugh will be sorely missed. While I know they will assign a new Salemen to the account, Walt can NEVER be replaced. Please know that I am praying for your strength and understanding during this very difficult time. Remember the good times that you shared with this amazing man - it will get you through.
Sincerely,
Lori Straker
