"Cookie" and I grew up together and graduated from Havre de Grace HS in 1964. Our lives took us in different directions and soon after we lost touch. I just found out about Don's passing today and I am deeply saddened.
I fondly remember hanging out in his dad's shoe repair shop and watching Primo work. I loved the smell of the glue. Donald's mom would have us come upstairs for milk and cookies when she wasn't working in the shop herself.
Primo's prize possession was a 1956 or 57 black Cadillac. It might have been the biggest car in town.
Our days at HHS were filled with fun and adventure and I will never forget him and his family. I truly regret not keeping up our friendship but I thought of him often.
Sincerely,
Eliot

I knew Don mostly from the other end of a phone, as we worked through mechanical issues on Florida Gas, trying to keep the engines running that Don needed. Always quick with a joke and a laugh, Don was a great guy to work with. Had the pleasure of seeing him more when I came to Houston and I consider that a privelege. I know you are in a better place Don, the train tracks go on forever in Heaven!

Don was a good friend and will be missed. When I think of Don I think of good thoughts of Gas Control. Of all that have come through Gas Control, he seemed the most comfortable in the job. He was professional in his work. He was the best trainer. When he trained someone you could tell that he really cared about the person learning with a good foundation of the basics. He could be trusted. He was a man of his word. It is sad that he did not get to enjoy the retired life for long, but he sure did a good job of enjoying himself in his job along the way. He had a good pattern to his life and was content. I look forward to catching up with Don on the other side.......maybe he is gas controlling a really big system, but more likely he is setting up a very grand model railroad..... Michael Bryant

Don was a good friend and and a true mentor. When I came to Houston in 1995 I felt so intimated and overwhelmed by the complexity of my new job as a a gas controller but Don had his ways and assured me all would be OK at the end of the day and it was. I will truly miss him, my condolences to Trish and his family. I wish Don could have retired earlier in life and have enjoyed retirement longer, his passing only motivates me further to do just that and to leave corporate America sooner. I remember him often speaking of leaving Texas and living either in south Florida or Hot Springs Arkansas, both of us fans of both places. From one veteran to another, thank you for serving and know you will be missed, rest in peace my friend.

Don was a good friend on the job. I worked in the field and only met him one time. He was a real professional and a pleasure to work with. We kidded each other so much some people may have thought we didn't like each other but we were close friends at work. I worked at Compressor Station 12 at Munson, FL.
God be with you Don.

Losing Don has been a real shock. There are many folks out there that have known Don much longer but it still seems like I have known him all my life. I often think about when Ruby and I were "just married" (in the Navy - 1966) and pulling a small U-haul with a 67 Camero and arrived in Havre de Grace, Maryland looking for an apartment to rent. We almost rented one above the shoe (cobbler) shop owned by Don's Dad but at $120 a month we could not afford it. I am guessing Don was in Viet Nam when this occurred. Don never talked a lot about his Army time but when you could pry it out of him he told some of the best stories I have ever heard concerning his time "in country" in Viet Nam. Don was the exceptional Gas Controller that trained both my son Ken and my son-in-law Joey. They both praised Don for how he set the foundation for their careers. Don would always joke around keeping it light but he ran the pipe like a true professional. Since we both retired this past year I have stayed in touch with Don by email and I will definitely miss the interaction mostly about old cars. Don kept you on your toes and always a laugh. Very much, we will miss Don. He was a very good man. Mike and Ruby
