Obituary of Garo Benjamin Garabedian

Loving memory of Garo Benjamin Garabedian

Garo, a beloved husband, dear father, and proud grandfather peacefully passed away on June 23, 2024 at the age of 78 surrounded by family.

Garo was born on September 12, 1945 in Providence, RI. to the late Gladys (Varbedian) and Charles Garabedian. He graduated in 1964 from Classical High School in Providence and the University of Rhode Island receiving a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Garo received a Master of Science in Traffic Engineering-Transportation Planning from Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, New York and taught at Cooper Union.

 

Family was Garo’s primary love. He is survived by his wife, Carlotta of 46 yrs., daughter Christina and her fiancé Dan, son Charles and his wife Laura, precious grandson Benjamin and little granddaughter to be born in November. He is also survived by his brother Armen (Denise), sister-in-law, Flora (James) and nieces Flora, Sasha and nephew Armen Richard and their families.

Professionally, Garo worked in many Transportation Management positions utilizing his extensive and diverse Traffic Engineering and Transportation experience in municipal government programs. This involved project management and consulting roles in major municipalities including New York City DOT, Jersey City, NJ, Newport, RI, Waterbury, CT and Greenwich, CT. He was a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, Transportation Research Board/National Academy of Sciences and Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society.

Garo was an active member of St Aloysius Church, Men’s Fellowship, Father Carey’s Bible Study Groups, Driving Miss Daisy, Wellness and other Church and New Canaan Community Organizations.

Garo’s life was defined by his love for family and friends. He prided himself on maintaining friendships from his growing up years in Rhode Island to the present. Garo’s loving smile and willingness to help others in need will always be remembered as examples of his loving kindness and spiritual faith. Garo is resting peacefully knowing his love for family and friends will continue to endure.

The family would like to thank the Medical Staff at Greenwich, Yale and Gaylord Hospitals for Comprehensive Health Care received as well as St. Aloysius Clergy and dear friends for their prayers, caring and support.

The Funeral Mass to celebrate Garo’s life will be held on July 8, 2024 at 11am at St. Aloysius Church, 21 Cherry Street, New Canaan, CT. Visitation will be at 10am at the Church before Mass. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, 352 Main Street, New Canaan, CT.
