I first met Garo when we were soda jerks, he at McDonalds on Lloyd’s Ave and me at Hall’s drug store, just next door. The year was the summer of 1965. I most remember his infectious smile!
A few years passed and we again met in URI’s Union hall. He mentioned he was planning a trip to Florida and I told him he should go instead to Nassau as I had a sister living in the Exumas. I must have given him her contact information. A month or so later (1968), I talked with my sister and she told me what a wonderful time she had with my college friends! I said who??!!.
After that Garo and I shared a more kindred relationship. When my sister later moved back to Middletown, we planned attending the Opera Carmen in NYC. Al Ciccio (classical & uri alumni) left to go to a bar across the street and when I looked over at Garo, his head was back and he was catching flies!
I will miss his good nature, wholesome smiles and blessed outlook on life. Peace until we see each other again.
