Obituary of Thomas B Towers

Thomas Barber Towers passed away in Feb 3, 2024 at the age of 85.  He was born June 9, 1938 to Jane Barber Ward and Thomas Hertzler Towers. He was the step-son of Wm Ballard Ward. He had one brother, John R. Towers of Boston, MA and one sister, Jane Ward of Cape Cod, MA

 

Tom attended St Marks School, in Southborough, Mass from 1949-53 and ultimately graduated from Manhasset H.S. in the Class of 1955. We went on to graduate from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and Int’l affairs at Princeton University, Class of 1959.

 

Tom was a commissioned lieutenant of U.S Marine Corps Served in Quantico, VA, Okinawa, Camp Pendleton. He went on to marry Joan Kay Lanquist of Loomis, Nebraska on December 28 1962. Tom graduated with an MBA from Harvard Business School then started his career at IBM, before moving on to a number of High Technology Companies. In 1990. he joined Infonet - Telecommunication and Service Corp and spent 5 years as General Manager of Europe, Middle East and Africa.

 

Following his passion of lacrosse, Tom served as a director of the U.S. LACROSSE Foundation and was a co-founder of the New Canaan Lacrosse Association.

Tom was a long time member of the Congregational Church in New Canaan where he twice served on the board of Trustees and was a volunteer in a mentoring program with Grace Baptist Church in Norwalk.

 

He was a member of the Princeton Club of NY and the Country Club of New Canaan. He retired in January of 2004 and joined the International Executive Service Corps as a volunteer. He also served as the first President of Staying Put in New Canaan, a national movement enabling adults to age in place. 

 

He is survived by two sons and five grandchildren.
