Obituary of Alessandro Recchia

Alessandro Recchia, 91, of New Canaan, CT passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, just 13 days shy of his 92 nd birthday.

Alex was born in Veroli, Italy to Emilio Recchia and Angela Fiorini. His father died young and as the oldest male sibling he was tasked to help his mother raise their family of 8 children during the starving years of WWII. He later married his beloved, beautiful Anna in 1957 and moved to Settefrati where they began raising their family. Times were still very hard then. Working the land and producing charcoal was a difficult way to sustain a large family. With the help of close relatives, Alex, Anna and their four young children immigrated to the U.S. in 1965 and settled in New Canaan, CT. Alex began working in a machine shop factory in the town of New Canaan, and then entered the construction and landscaping industries. In addition to his own business, he worked full-time at Waveny Care Center as a maintenance mechanic until he retired at the young age of 80. He continued his landscaping work until only a few years ago. Alex was an amazing provider, dedicated husband, and father with endless energy and stamina.

His love for his family was boundless. Alex was an avid hunter, who enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Hillsdale, NY with his family and friends. Alex, his son, Emilio and friends spent many memorable times together. In addition to hunting, he enjoyed planting his vegetable garden and growing his flowers; but most of all he prized his fig tree, which he grew from a seedling imported from Italy. The tree still resides in his home in New Canaan. Alex is survived by his daughter, Maria Frattaroli (Claudio) of South Salem, NY, his son, Emilio Recchia (Dorothy) of Wilton, CT, and his son-in-law, Manuel Allende. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Maelina Frattaroli-Barbati (Patrizio), Nick Frattaroli (Laura), Joseph Recchia, Celine Hodges (Shane), Maria Siretanu (Mihail), and Michael Allende. In addition to his grandchildren, he is survived by his four great-grandchildren, Sofia, Eoin, Cliona, and Amelia. He is also survived by several brothers and their families in Italy.

Alex was predeceased by his wife Anna (2021) and his daughters, Clara Recchia (2011) and Antonia Allende (2021). Alex was extremely grateful for being under the wonderful care of his caregiver, Maria Elena Garate. The family will receive friends at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan, CT on Monday, April 10, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at St. Aloysius Church at 10am, 21 Cherry Street, New Canaan, CT followed by entombment at Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the New Canaan EMS at
