I’m so sorry to hear of Alex’s passing. We were neighbors of his across the street for 12 years. We often held conversations over the traffic along East Avenue, where he would always comment on how fast the cars were going and how much traffic has increased over the years. We would always wave to him and Anna sitting on their front porch. From that porch, he would comment on our ugly crumbling wall (which we were able to finally fix so he had something better to look at), and wave back at our family playing in our courtyard. He once even witnessed a lightening bolt strike our massive Sugar Maple tree- I heard the sound and saw the blinding light but wasn’t sure where it hit. Sure enough, he was out on the porch during the storm to confirm it hit our tree (which took it like a champ and is still going strong). We got to know Alex, Anna and their daughter Clara over the years there, and always marveled how Clara would walk miles and miles every day throughout town with their beagle. Alex often gave me updates on his garden, often commenting how the too hot humid weather and the lack of rain were affecting his tomatoes. But his tomatoes always came out great- he would always supply us with a large bag of tomatoes every year, they were excellent. My wife and I were constantly amazed at how hard and long he worked caring for his yard, plantings, trees and bushes. His hard work showed- the landscaping at his home was immaculate. Day in and day out, his was always outside working- cutting the grass, trimming trees, blowing leaves, snow plowing the driveway, from early in the morning into the evening. He did all his own work well into his 80s. We didn’t know where he got his energy from but we always wished we had his energy level when we got to his age. A few years ago, we moved out of our condo to get some more space for our family, and we didn’t see him as much after that. I did see him again a couple of years ago when I was in the neighborhood and we chatted a bit. As can be expected, he was outside tending to his rose bushes. I’m sorry I’m just finding out about his passing now- we would have loved to have come to the service, celebrate his life and pay our respects to his large and beautiful family. He was an amazing man. We will never forget him, Anna and Clara. Our sincerest condolences to his family on his passing.
