Obituary of Spiros Segalas
SEGALAS--Spiros "Sig", of New York City, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the age of 89. Raised in Manhattan, he was a star athlete at Trinity School. He graduated from Princeton University and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Sig co-founded Jennison Associates in 1969, creating a preeminent institutional management firm. Nowhere was he more of a giant than at home to his family. He loved traveling, photography, and the ocean. He encouraged his family to pursue activities that brought them joy. Sig loved sports and watching his family compete athletically. He was a hero and a Hall of Famer to his children. To the grandkids, he was "Papou", larger than life and perfectly imperfect. Upon meeting his first great-grandchild, he gave him his first Yankees cap. "I just want to make sure he's raised right," he said with a knowing smile. Go Yankees! His unbridled optimism inspired many, and he will be greatly missed. Sig was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Diane (nee Held). He is survived by his brother, Hercules (Peggy) and sister, Mary; his four children, Anthony Segalas, Harry Segalas (Lisa), Christine Segalas and Daphne Sampson (Henry); eleven grandchildren, Kimberly Sheehan (Michael), Tiana and Summer Segalas: Brendan, Zane, Annie and Mack Segalas: Spiros and Samantha Segalas-Shaw; Sabrina and Anthony Sampson, and his great-grandson, Anthony James Sheehan.
