I was so surprised to learn of RAY passing on Ray is my cousin and his father was my uncle. Rays dad died young at 31 in 1949. He was a great artist of horses for a magazine blood line magazine. He died in Lexington,ky while on assignment buried in Cincinnati Ohio next to his Mom and Dad. I can go on and on. If Amy Minella can call me I have a lot to tell her about the family. Ray, with his quintessential professorial ways, taught me what it means to be a renaissance-banker. In 2008, Ray was responsible for sending me to London to help start the Jefferies Healthcare group in the face of the worst liquidity crisis since 1929. Proved to be one of the most amazing professional experiences in my career. Thanks Ray. I’ll never forget my interview with you; wearing one of your trademark sweaters drinking tea—I almost fell asleep in your couch.

I will never forget Ray who I worked with for three years at Jefferies. One of my fondest memories of him was driving to a pitch out in New Jersey in his new Porsche Cayenne in rain storm with Ray on a conference call while texting and driving! I had the good fortune to work for Ray in the Healthcare Group at Jefferies. He was one of the best group heads I have worked for and he really cared about the people, even the junior staff. It was always a bit intimidating to go into his office for the fear of breaking one of the many momentos he kept, but he treated everyone with respect and listened to all ideas. Thanks Ray for everything you taught me.

I will miss you very much, old friend. I valued your friendship, especially your keen mind, your loyalty, your patriotism, and thoughtfulness. I thought it was a tough summer after the loss of my beloved Kathie on July 9th, but to lose you only a few weeks later was a gut punch. I cannot thank you enough for your frequent calls to her this past year and honoring her by your presence at her funeral on July 16th. I count you amongst a small group of dear friends, Ray, and I will miss you very much. I look forward to catching up with you again, however. Very sad news. Professor Minella was the only professor at Cornell that had a huge impact on my life and greatly shaped me the way I am today. Used to spend time with him over dinner or at his offices discussing law, business and politics. He was brilliant and funny and had so many wonderful stories and lessons to impart. I sent him a book last year about Singapore and the flaws of its system of government and he confirmed that he received it and thanked me. I always invited him to Singapore and he always said he might come though I wasn’t that sure he would. Though he stopped replying my messages this year I never for a moment thought anything would happen to him. He will be sorely missed.

I had the pleasure of working closely with and getting to know Ray quite well in the latter part of his Wall Street career at Jefferies. He was a true gentleman and professional, who sought to be respectful of all parties involved in a given transaction, while identifying and executing on the solution that served their respective interests. He felt strongly that it was the job of an investment banker to deliver real value to clients in return for the undeniably ample fees earned from them. Ray's thoughtful approach to business was rooted in a foundation of intellectual curiosity and respect for differing opinions that was, I believe, essential to his character. It was an honor working with Ray and continuing a relationship with him well beyond our time as business colleagues. He will be missed.
