Having been a soccer teammate of John's at both Archbishop Molloy High School & at the Blau-Weiss Gottschee Soccer Club, I am so saddened to hear of his passing.
All I can say is that the "Salt of the Earth" paragraph in his Obituary described him perfectly ... even way back then!

God bless the entire Hickey family during this tough time. I have many fond memories over the years with John, from playing soccer together as kids / teens, going to Cosmos games at Giants Stadium, bachelor parties, unexpectedly running into each other at Shannon Airport on our way home from family weddings, and celebrating our birthdays and other family milestones together. The Hickey and McNally families have been friends for over 40 years. Although we may not have been on the same page in recent years, you’ll always be my brother. We love you, John, and will miss you terribly.

Sending my deepest condolences to the Hickey family. I’ve known John and his brother Pat for over 40 years, playing soccer together at St. Benedict’s in Richmond Hill and remaining friends ever since. John was always smiling, willing to help others and just an all around great person. So many memories - March Madness in Vegas, Cosmos games during the late 70’s, hanging with the Hickeys in the Catskills, indoor soccer at Benny’s... you will be missed John.

To Linda, Fiona, Jack and the entire Hickey family I am wishing you my sincere condolences on your loss. Linda,
I am so absolutely saddened beyond words of the passing of John. The very first time I had the opportunity to meet him was in Colorado for Rush fest. He was the team dad and helped with all the boys excursions during this time. He left an unbelievable impression on my family and I. He always had such positive feedback on my son Nicholas. Nick was a lucky boy to be able to play beside such a wonderful son Jack. I could feel the love that he had for both his children. He spoke always so fondly of you Linda. On the sidelines I had such a great time hanging with him to support our boys soccer! He was almost as loud as me and about just as passionate if not more! I will hold Fiona, Jack and you in my prayers always. I hope with time you can find peace during this tragic time. Please accept my condolences for you and your family.
