Joan H. Ballots, age 80, a resident of New Canaan, CT for over 50 years died Thursday December 6, 2012 at her home. Born in Philadelphia, January 2, 1932 she was the daughter of the late Harry and Helen Tracy Hessdorfer. Joan was the widow of Dr. John Ballots D.D. S. who died in 1989. A native Philadelphian, she received her Bachelors degree from Temple University in 1953 and a past member of New Canaan Town Council. Joan was a physical education teacher at Saxe Middle School for 35 years and was just named an honorary member of New Canann Country Club this past year. In 1995 Joan was named a member of Temple University Board of Trustee where she held the position until her death. Joan was passionate about all things Temple and a great supporter of all their programs from Academics, to Athletics and the Arts. Joan was an avid golfer who also dedicated much of her time to Coaches vs. Cancer Foundation. Joan was a dedicated fan of Temple basketball and could be seen at every game, sitting behind the bench, donning her signature “pin hat” which was comprised of pins collected from opposing teams. Joan is survived by her extended family and many close friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday Dec. 14th at the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan,178 Oenoke Ridge Road, New Canaan, CT 06840 at 12:00pm. Interment will be private in Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers. contributions may be made to the Temple University Owl Fund, Development Office, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA 19122.
