Obituary of Eleanor Booth

Eleanor (Susan) Koppen Booth of New Canaan passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, January 20th. Eleanor was born in Stamford on February 4, 1926. She was the only child of the late George and Susan Koppen. She was a proud graduate of Stamford High School class of 1943. Eleanor worked at the Stamford Board of Education in the 1940's where she maintained lifelong relationships with the girls who she met working there. She met Frank Booth of South Wingfield, Derbyshire, England at a local square dance held at Rippowam High School. They married on April 7th 1956 and moved to New Canaan. Eleanor spent the next 50 years raising her two sons and involving herself within the New Canaan community. She volunteered for many years at Person-to-Person and the Waveny Care Center and then for the New Canaan/Darien AARP later on in life. Eleanor was named Volunteer of Year 2003 in New Canaan. Eleanor and Frank along with good friends enjoyed traveling to Europe, the Far East, Canada and beautiful America. She loved gardening and the gorgeous flowers grown in her husband's gardens. She will be missed for her sense of humor especially during her lengthy illness and her constant cheerful companionship to all. She leaves behind her loving husband Frank, and her sons, US Army Lieutenant Colonel Kenneth and his wife Amy of Fort Worth, Texas, and Richard and his wife Cynthia of New Canaan. The family also wishes to extend thanks to Norwalk Hospital, Norwalk Hospice and Visiting Nurses. A memorial service will be held later in the year.
