Obituary of Jane Muschamp

Jane Ann Muschamp of New Canaan died peacefully at home on Saturday, January 7, 2012 after a long struggle with cancer. She was 65, and the wife of Allen L. Stevens. Ms. Muschamp was born in St. Louis Park, Minnesota on August 16, 1946, the daughter of Lawrence H. Muschamp and the late Ferne E. Muschamp. She received her bachelor of business administration from the University of Denver in 1968, and a masters’ degree from the University of Minnesota School of Journalism and Mass Communications in 1977. After finishing her undergraduate degree, she completed a traineeship in Switzerland and then returned to New York City to start her career in advertising with Benton and Bowles. She later formed her own corporate communications company working for clients including AT&T and JP Morgan. While living in New York, she enjoyed spending summers with friends on the shore in eastern Connecticut. She moved to New Canaan in 1985. She has been an active member of the New York Unit of the Herb Society of America for many years. She was an avid cook and enjoyed participating in the EATS group in New Canaan. She also was a longtime active member of the Congregational Church. Traveling was a life-long passion. She spent a year circling the world alone, including a three month stay in Hong Kong, a safari in Kenya, and a trip on a Nile river boat. Other highlights were a church trip to Greece and a recent family trip to the Galapagos, where she enjoyed seeing the abundant marine life. In addition to her husband, Allen, Ms. Muschamp is survived by her daughter, Sarah M. Stevens, of Washington, DC; her son, Spencer M. Stevens, of New Canaan; her father, Lawrence Muschamp and her brother, James Muschamp of St. Louis Park, Minnesota. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 28, at 11 AM at the Congregational Church of New Canaan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Congregational Church of New Canaan, 26 Park Street, New Canaan, CT 06840, or to the New York Unit of the Herb Society of America, Jane Muschamp Memorial Fund, PO Box 471, Bedford Hills, NY 10507.
