Obituary of Audrey Shahnazarian
Audrey Shahnazarian, a resident of Fairfield County for nearly half a century, died at her home in New Canaan on Tuesday November 18, 2008. She was 75 years old. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dr. Thomas E. Shahnazarian; one sister, Dr. Lola Nouryan of Garden City, NY; two sons, Tom Shahnazarian of Denver, Colorado and Roger Shahnazarian of San Diego, CA; and two grandchildren, Jack and Renee.
Audrey was an active member of the Smith College Alumni Association and the New Canaan-based chapter. Several times over the past three decades, she chaired the annual Smith College Book Sale project at Waveny Mansion, which raised several hundred
thousand dollars for scholarships granted to Smith undergraduates. She was also a 1955 graduate of Smith College.
Born on June 9, 1933 in New York City, she was the oldest child born to Vahram and Melinet Derderian. She graduated with distinction from New Lincoln High School.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Audrey’s love of life and sense of humor touched everyone she met. She loved travel, eating out and the music of the Mamas and Papas, Beach Boys and Jimmy Buffett. She was also an avid tennis player and a former member of the Stamford Yacht Club and Amelia Island Plantation Country Club.
A small private service was held recently to celebrate Audrey’s life. However, for those wishing to honor her, donations may be made in her memory to:
