Obituary of Vito Calitri

Vito Anthony Calitri, 85, of Wilton, CT, formerly of Stamford, passed away at his home on November 2, 2008. Born in New Canaan on October 18, 1923 to the late Fidele and Concetta Montecalvo Calitri. He was the husband of Ida Adele DiCarlo Calitri. Mr. Calitri was the owner of Calitri’s Wilton Chevron for over 40 years. Mr. Calitri was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. as Staff Sergeant in the 410 Bomber Squadron D3 Normandy and received the Victory Medal. He was also 14 year volunteer for the Belltown Fire Department in Stamford and an honorary lifetime member of the New Canaan Historical Society. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter Barbara and grandson John of Wilton, and daughter Joanne Calitri of Santa Barbara, CA, brother Fred Calitri of New Canaan, and sister Rose Kondezelia of Fairfield. Mr. Calitri is predeceased by; four sisters, Jeanne Brown, Camille Moran, Marie Lupienski, and Kitty Martin, and one brother, John Calitri. Wake, Mass, and Burial will be in the traditional Roman Catholic Rite. Requiem Mass will be on Friday November 7, 2008 at 10:00 am at the Christ the King Church, St. Ignatius Retreat House, 209 Tackora Trail, Ridgefield, CT 06877 with interment with full military honors following in Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan. Friends may visit from 4:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan, CT 06840.
