Obituary of Joseph Casciari

Joseph Dominick Casciari passed away of natural causes on August 20, with his family by his side. He was 88 years old. Joe, a life-long resident of New Canaan, was born at his home on Forest Street on September 2, 1922. He attended New Canaan High School before entering the U.S. Army to serve in World War ll. Joe was a corporal in the army during WWII and landed on Normandy Beach during the D-Day Invasion. He also fought in campaigns in Northern France and the Rhineland, including the Battle of the Bulge. Joe was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon and the European, African and Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon. After the war, Joe returned to New Canaan to run his own landscaping business and worked as a crew chief for the New Canaan Parks Department. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Joe is survived by his wife of 58 years, Teresa, and their three sons Joseph, of New City, NY, Dino, of Darien and David, of Ridgefield. He has seven grandchildren, Kristine, David, Joseph, Meredith, Emily, Nicholas and Elizabeth. Joe was a parishioner at St. Aloysius in New Canaan. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Saint Aloysius at 10:00 Am. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan. There will be no calling hours.
