Obituary of Edwin Holmer
Edwin C. Holmer, Jr., 87, of Tequesta, Florida and New Canaan, Connecticut, retired former President of Exxon Chemical Company, died Saturday, September 27th at the Stamford Connecticut Hospital.
Mr. Holmer was born in Oyster Bay, New York in 1921 to the late Edwin C. and Agnes Andersen Holmer. He received a chemical engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York in 1942. He then began work at Standard Oil Company of New Jersey (now ExxonMobil) and served with that company until his retirement in 1986. For the decade prior to his retirement, Mr. Holmer was President of Exxon Chemical Company and Corporate Vice President of Exxon Corporation.
Mr. Holmer is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Agnes Brignac Holmer of Tequesta and New Canaan, and two sons, Edwin C. Holmer III of New York, New York and Russell E. Holmer of New Canaan.
Services will be private and in accordance with his wishes there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 182 South Avenue, New Canaan, CT 06840.
