Margaret LaDestro, 88, a lifelong resident of New Canaan, died Thursday, July 8, 2011 at Norwalk Hospital. Born November 1, 1922 in New Canaan, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore & Theresa Corello. Margaret was a homemaker and spent most of her adult life raising her three children as well as being a nanny to several others. However, most of the children she cared for grew to love her so much that they adoringly referred to her as Mama. Margaret loved children and was fortunate enough to be surrounded by them her entire life. Margaret loved to sing and that is one of the many things her family will miss about her. You could be having a rough day and just to hear her upbeat rendition of an Elvis Presley tune, or anything for that matter, could turn it around. At the end of the day, she only wanted to see you smile, and that is what we will remember the most. She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Finnegan of New Canaan, her son, Stephen R. LaDestro of New Canaan, her Five grandchildren, Stephen, Jason, Jessica, Jeremy, Nicole and her 4 great-grandchildren, Kayla, Gabrielle, Harlow and Nathan. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Frank J. LaDestro, Sr. and her son, Frank J. LaDestro, Jr. Memorial service will be held at a later time to be announced by her family.
