Anthony J. Russo, 93, a lifelong resident of New Canaan, died Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Wilton Meadows. Born August 14, 1917, in New Canaan, he was the son of the late Samuel & Anna Gaeto Russo. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served for four and a half years during WWII. He was a self employed mason and a member of the Bricklayers Union since 1937. He was also a former foreman for J. C. Smith. He was a parishioner of St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan. Mr. Russo is survived by his wife Marie Russo of New Canaan, his son, Stephen A. Russo and his wife Cheryl of New Milford, his two daughters, Deborah R. Gogliettino and her husband John of Danbury, Jo-Ann Soltes and her husband David of Milford. Five grandchildren, Nicholas, Anne and Joseph Russo, Danielle and Jessica Soltes also survive. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at St. Aloysius Church, New Canaan at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan. The family will receive friends at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St. New Canaan one hour before the funeral at 9:00 AM.
