Obituary of Grace Funk

Grace C. Funk, age 99, a longtime New Canaan resident died on Thursday, March 31, 2011 in Wallingford, CT. She was born March 24, 1912 in Kent, CT. She was the daughter of the late Alva R. and Grace (Stone) Chase. She was a graduate of Kent High School and in 1935 married Peter P. Myer, Jr., of New Canaan who died in 1969. In 1974 she married Paul K. Funk who died in 1986. In addition to her parents and husbands she was predeceased by three sisters, Mildred Chase, Florence Bartlett and Pauline Case, a brother, Russell Chase, and a grandson, Bradley Vadas. She is survived by a sister, Edna Frisbie, of Kent, CT, a daughter, Constance Taylor and her husband Bruce, of Weston, two sons Peter P. Myer, III and his wife Nancy, of Stratford and Bruce Myer and his wife Patricia, of Brunswick, ME, and nine grandchildren: Robert Myer, Kevin Myer, Suzanne Jankovsky, Wendy Myer, Melissa Prevey, Christopher Vadas, Christopher Myer, Bruce Taylor, Jr., Sandra Forlenza and 15 great grandchildren. Mrs. Funk lived in New Canaan from 1933 to 2001 where she volunteered in the Thrift Shop and Library. She was a member of St. Mark’s Church in New Canaan for 72 years and was Parish Secretary there for 17 years. She enjoyed her neighborhood sewing circle, gardening, knitting, canasta, crossword puzzles and especially spending time with friends and family. She will be remembered for her giving spirit, friendship and desire to help others. Arrangements are being made through Hoyt Funeral Home in New Canaan. A memorial service will be held on April 14, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Interment will be private.
