Ida Mazza Rucci, age 92, a resident of New Canaan for over 70 years passed peacefully away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday March 31, 2011 at Norwalk Hospital. Born in Stamford on May 19, 1918 she was the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Carolena Ferraro Mazza. She was pre-deceased by her husband Joseph J. Rucci Sr. Much loved as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend Ida enjoyed swimming and was a long-time member of the New Canaan YMCA where she participated in many aquatic programs. During her career she was manager and bookkeeper at the Colonial Barber Shop in New Canaan, and the Barber and Beauty Supply Company in Stamford, both family businesses. In 2007 she moved to the New Canaan Inn where she led Wednesday Scrabble games and was a member of the Welcome Committee, the Inn Notes and the Resident Council. Ida is survived by three daughters, Romola Riley and her husband William of Hamden, CT, Carole Snyder of Woodbridge, CT and Diana Cooney and her husband James of Verona, PA and four sons, Joseph J. Rucci Jr and his wife Deborah of New Canaan, Charles Rucci of Scottsdale, AZ Peter Rucci and his wife Deborah of New London, NH and Michael Rucci of Bridgeport, CT. She is also survived by her sister, Lillian Faccio and her husband John of Naples, FL and Charlestown, RI, seventeen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday April 5 at 10:30 a.m. at St Aloysius Church, Cherry Street, New Canaan, CT. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
