Obituary of Anthony Pirone

Anthony J. Pirone, 84, a life-long resident of New Canaan, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford. He was the beloved husband of Carmela Sabia Pirone. Born in New Canaan, he was the son of the late Ciro and Josephine Pirone. He attended New Canaan schools and served in the Army during World War II. A graduate of Merrill Business School, he was a self-employed public accountant. He enjoyed being with his family and watching his grandsons play their many sports. He was an avid bowler and a passionate golfer; having won many team and individual golf tournaments including the 1991 City of Stamford Senior Amateur Championship. He was also a devoted UCONN Huskies basketball fan. In addition to his wife Carmela, to whom he was married for 58 years, he is survived by a son, Ciro J. Pirone of Stamford, two daughters, Marlene Volpintesta of Stamford and Jacqueline White of New Canaan, two sisters, Mary Tiani of New Canaan and Millie Meloni of Greensboro, NC. He is survived by seven grandchildren: Ciro, Jr., Christopher and Nicholas Pirone, Diana and Jeffrey Volpintesta, and Andrew and Christopher White. He was predeceased by his brothers, James and Patsy, a sister Antoinette Buongiorno and a son-in-law David White. Friends may call at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan on Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 31 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Aloysius Church, Cherry Street, New Canaan with Interment to follow at St. John Cemetery in Darien.
