Obituary of Barbara Kries
Barbara Ellen Kries age 74, a New Canaan resident for over 30 years, died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Norwalk Hospital after giving a courageous fight with lymphoma. Born in Bayshore, Long Island, NY on August 3, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Conrad and Rose Wagner Schwarzkopf. Barbara was pre-deceased by her husband Edward and her brother Edmund.
Barbara was an avid sportswoman who excelled at tennis, paddle tennis and golf. Her lifelong love of music gave her the gift of singing with the Presbyterian Church Choir in New Canaan for 30 years and she was an accomplished cellist and pianist. She was an educator who earned a Masters degree and a real estate professional who helped many New Canaanites buy and sell their homes. She was an active agent at Coldwell Banker, but held many positions including Managing Broker at another agency during her tenure. She enjoyed supporting many local and national charities and the company of her many wonderful friends in New Canaan and Wilton. During her time in Huntington, Long Island, she was a member of the Junior League and the AAUW. She had the opportunity to travel all over the world and spend winters with her friends in Vero Beach and Naples, FL. Above all she cherished her children.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Cindi Loveall, and her husband Lyle of Ashburn, VA
Her son, Peter Kries, and his wife Jessica of New York City
Her sister, Patricia Kinderman, of Anaheim, CA
And, her niece and nephew, Lisa Goss and Ed Schwarzkopf, Jr.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday January 8, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 178 Oenoke Ridge Road, New Canaan, CT.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Music Fund.
