Obituary of Frances Roache
Frances Gorman Roache, 96, of New Fairfield, Connecticut formerly of Silvermine, died Friday, December 17, 2010 at Danbury Hospital.
Born February 11, 1914, in Atlanta, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late William Holmes Gorman and Elizabeth Lawton Gorman of Georgia. She attended Ogelthorpe University in Atlanta.
Mrs. Roache worked in the Norwalk Public School System and also taught Sunday school at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in New Canaan for many years. She was an active member of the Silvermine College of Art in New Canaan.
Mrs. Roache was an avid antique collector and lover of animals. She volunteered countless hours to the Long Shore Kennel Club where she and her husband, William C. Roache, along with their Pekingese dogs, visited nursing homes and schools throughout the New Canaan and Norwalk area.
From the 1950s to the 1970s Mrs. Roache, with her husband and two daughters, Betty and Chris, navigated the waters of the Long Island Sound in their cruiser. Upon her retirement, she and her husband spent many lovely weekends with their family in their summer cottage on the shore of Lake Candlewood in New Fairfield, Connecticut.
Mrs. Roache had a talent for art and a flair for interior design, which she shared with others. Her life was full of love and happiness, and she brought much joy to her family, friends and all others, great and small.
Mrs. Roache was predeceased by her husband, William C. Roache, and her daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Leland. She is survived by her daughter, Christina R. Matranga and her son-in-law Joseph F. Matranga of New Fairfield. Mrs. Roache is also survived by her three grandchildren, Scott Leland, Christopher Leland and Jennifer Criscuolo, and five great grandchildren.
Service and interment were private. Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St. New Canaan is in charge of arrangements
