Obituary of Ralph Scott

Ralph M. Scott, age 81 a lifelong New Canaan resident and former New Canaan Police Chief died Sunday evening December 8, 2013 at Notre Dame Conv. Home in Norwalk. Born in Lewisboro, NY November 10, 1932 he was the son of the late Arthur and Mary Carthy Scott.. Ralph was the husband of the late Mary Ann Gilbert Scott who died in 1996. Ralph attended New Canaan High School (class of 1951) where he played several sports. His record-setting exploits on the football field earned him an induction into the NCHS Hall of Fame in 2006. After graduation he volunteered for the United States Marine Corps, in which he served for three years. His service included active duty with the 7th Marines in Korea during the Korean War. He joined the New Canaan Police Department in 1956 and rose rapidly through the ranks to become a Detective in 1964 and a Captain in 1973. He was appointed Chief of the department in 1975 and served in that post until his retirement from the police force in 1987. During his time on the police force he attended and graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA, and attended training programs in Police Command and Crime Investigation in Cincinnati, Boston, and Washington D.C. Ralph is survived by his son Brian N. Scott and Brian’s fiancée Roma Blanchet of Randolph, NJ, and his brother Arthur Scott, of Florida. In addition to his wife, Ralph was pre deceased by his brother Norman Scott who was killed in action in WW 2 while serving in the U.S. Navy at the battle of Okinawa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 11:00 Am at St Aloysius Church, Cherry Street, New Canaan, Interment will be private.
