Obituary of Italia Gizelt
With profound sadness we announce the passing of Italia Bertetich Gizelt on May 9th, 2009. Beloved wife of the late Charles Gizelt, Ita was born in Fiume, Italy (now Rijeka, Croatia) on October 14th, 1922. Ita came to New York in 1951 and resided there until 1985 when she moved to Stamford, CT. She lived in New Canaan for the past 2 years. Ita had a successful 20-year career working at Macy’s. She enjoyed painting, doing embroidery, and gardening. She leaves behind her loving children Alessandra Formentin and her husband Robert, Paul Gizelt and his wife Sydney, her adoring grandchildren Marc Graber and his wife Rachel, Joshua Gizelt, David and Justin Formentin, great grandchildren Zachary and Emily Graber, her sisters Egle Grondona and Azalea Cardano, her dear friends Bruno and Mirella Cos, Kenneth and Lucy Fabian, as well as many nieces and nephews in Italy. She is also survived by daughter Renata Castiglia. She filled the world with laughter and expressed in her art the beauty she saw in everything and everyone. She gave of herself freely and shared her love unconditionally, inspiring those around her with her generosity. She has left an unimaginable emptiness in our lives but we are forever grateful to have known and loved her. Nonna’s chi-chis will miss her always. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, May 16 between 2 and 4pm at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan, CT. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care of Southwestern CT, 1029 E. Main St. Stamford, CT 06902.
