Obituary of Ada Osborn
Ada Weld Osborn of New Canaan, a sculptor, died Wednesday, November 3, at her home. She was 80.
Born on May 15, 1930, in St. Louis, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Garneau Weld and Etta Randolph Weld.
Mrs. Osborn was a graduate of Mary Institute and Miss Porter’s School, and attended Westhill College.
She was a longtime member of St. Aloysius Parish. She was active with the New Canaan Garden Club, and was honored with the Leila Hammond Duncan Tray in 2000 for the originality, distinction and design of her floral arrangements.
Mrs. Osborn joined the New Canaan Sculpture Group in 1994, where she studied under James Youngman and Stanley Bleifeld, working in terra-cotta and casting in bronze, hydrocal and ceramic. She was a member of the Society of Connecticut Sculptors and showed her work at the Carriage Barn Arts Center, the Westport Nature Center and the Rowayton Arts Center. She has sculptures in several private collections.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Hagan, and her husband, Michael Hagan, of Rico, Colo.; her daughter, Amanda Osborn, of Chicago, Ill.; her son, Richard Osborn, and his wife, Loralei Osborn, of San Francisco, Calif., and grandchildren Victor, Noah, Alina, Lydia, Ava and Mateo, as well as many friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Osborn Jr. of New York, N.Y., and her brothers, Garneau Weld and Henry Weld of St. Louis, Mo.
A memorial service will be held at St. Aloysius on Friday, November 12, at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow at the adjacent Stapleton Hall. Mrs. Osborn’s ashes will be interred at Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo., on a date to be announced.
