Obituary of Alton LeBlanc

Alton Levi LeBlanc age 84 a resident of New Canaan for over 50 years died Thursday September 30, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Alton fought a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born in Carlton, Nova Scotia, July 7, 1926 he was the son of the late Louis and Frances Surette LeBlanc. Alton, was the bar manager at the New Canaan Country Club for over 25 years, retiring in l996, and prior to that was a carpenter and a member of Local #210. Alton was an active member of the South Norwalk Boat Club, a member of the American Legion and a past member of the Eagles Club of Norwalk. He was a WW2 Canadian Army Veteran serving as a prisoner of war guard, and a Motorcycle Dispatch Rider. Survivors include his wife of 61 years Janet LeBlanc of New Canaan and his two sons, Brian LeBlanc and his wife Gretchen of Norwalk and Alton LeBlanc. of New Canaan. Two daughters Ruth LeBlanc Jones and her husband Burton Jones of New Canaan and Charlotte Merritt of Norwalk. Two brothers, Roma LeBlanc of New Canaan and Martin LeBlanc of Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. Three sisters, Marie Smith of Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, Frances Richards and Elizabeth Richardson of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and four brothers and three sisters who predeceased him. Grandchildren: Jennifer and Patrick LeBlanc, BJ, Adam and Stephanie Jones, Jimmy and Kimberly Merritt. Two great grandsons, RJ Beladino and Brian Owen LeBlanc. And grandson Brian (Chipper) LeBlanc who predeceased him. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the New Canaan Congregational Church, 23 Park St. (God’s Acre) New Canaan, Ct. at 10:00 Am. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St, New Canaan from 4-8pm Donations in memory of Alton are requested to be given to the New Canaan Fire Company 1, 60 Main St. New Cannaan, CT 06840 and the New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corp, 180 South Ave, New Canaan, CT 06840.
