Obituary of Sally Kalin

Sally Anne Kalin, 44, of Wilton, died at Norwalk Hospital on Saturday, June 19 after an eight year battle with cancer. Sally is the daughter of Ed and Vivian Elbert of New Canaan. She is survived by her parents; her husband, Steven, children Will and Madeline; her sister, Susan Elbert Tregoning, brother-in-law, Aaron Tregoning and son, Connor, of Winston-Salem, NC and her beloved dog, Trooper. Sally was born in Kingston, NY on January 2, 1966. She attended Springdale School in Stamford for three years. After her family moved to New Canaan in 1974, she attended East School, Saxe Middle School and graduated from the high school in 1983. She received a BA degree in English from Lafayette College in 1987 where she was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority and has remained active in alumni affairs. Her professional career included work as a copy editor for the Control Data Corp, Talbots store manger in Fishkill, NY and elementary school teacher in Old Greenwich. She married Steven Kalin in 1995; son, Will, was born in 1999 and daughter, Madeline, in 2002. After living in Danbury, CT and Sudbury, MA, the family moved to Wilton in 2001. Sally’s many volunteer activities were centered around her childrens’ schools, including Zion’s Hill Preschool and Driscoll and Cider Mill Schools where she assisted teachers and librarians. During her eight year battle with cancer, her indomitable spirit and courage carried her through the endless tests and treatments that attempted to control each new attack. Always with a smile and cheerful greeting, she was an inspiration to her family and all who knew her. And throughout her ordeal, she was loved and supported by countless friends who were unstinting in the generosity of their time, love and compassion. They have the family’s everlasting thanks and gratitude. Sally and her family have, for many years, been members of the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan where a memorial service will be held on June 25 at 11 a.m. A reception will follow at the Woodway Country Club. Interment at the Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Norwalk Hospital Foundation, “Sally E.
