Obituary of Dr. Leonard Green
Dr. Leonard Green, 93, podiatrist, who lived and practiced on Main Street, New Canaan for over 50 years died peacefully on November 3, 2018 in Stamford Hospital after a short illness. He had moved to Edge Hill in Stamford in August 2016.
Born in Norwalk on February 19, 1925, he was the son of the late Gus and Pauline Green. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 40 years, Erna Jane Feldman, a former member of the New Canaan Town Council. His sister, Ruth Green Osman, brother Harold Green and niece, Geri Osman, also predeceased him.
Following graduation from Norwalk High School in 1943, Lenny, as he was known, enlisted in the Army. He served as Private First Class with Company D 104th Infantry Regiment in Europe during World War II. He was wounded in France in November 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart. He also received the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. Following his discharge in January 1946, he took advantage of the GI Bill to study at Northwestern in Chicago.
Dr. Green was always active in the New Canaan community. He was a long time member of the Senior Men’s Club, He enjoyed his bridge games at Lapham, his daily walks and tennis games at Mead Park, playing the violin, Chinese food and a good library book. His positive presence will be missed by his many friends, former patients, neighbors and family.
Dr. Green is survived by his three nephews, Bruce Green and Guy Green both of Norwalk and Steve Green of New Fairfield CT. Additional survivors include Steve’s children, Larissa and Trevor and Bruce’s children, Brian and Sheila and sister-in-law Rhoda Feldman of Florida.
