Obituary of Geraldine Joyce

Geraldine (Ger) Ann Dwyer Joyce of New Canaan, Connecticut, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 20th at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Ger was born in Riverdale, New York on February 16, 1936 to Dr. William A. and Ida Heaney Dwyer. Ger was predeceased by her oldest brother, Dr. William Dwyer, Jr. and is survived by her loving siblings, Jane Bohmert (Charles), Patricia Draddy (William), Maura O’Donnell (William) and Brooks Michael Dwyer (Paula). Ger married the love of her life, John Michael Joyce III, of New Rochelle, New York after meeting on the tennis court of Larchmont Shore Club. Married for 62 years, Ger and Mike raised their 5 children in New Rochelle and later maintained residences in Sea Island, Georgia and Stratton, Vermont before residing near their family in New Canaan. Ger was a woman of deep faith and a devoted parishioner of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in New Canaan where she attended daily mass. She was equally committed to giving back to the communities in which she lived. Ger enjoyed golf at Ekwanok Country Club in Manchester, Vermont, Ocean Forest Golf Club in Sea Island and Westchester Country Club in Rye, New York, and was even a “member” of the hole-in-one club. However, Ger’s truest passion was her family. An incredible mother by nature and vocation, Ger was beloved by her 5 children Catherine Joyce Wooters (Laurence) of New Canaan; John Michael IV (Clare – d. 1999) of Northfield, Illinois; Kevin Patrick (Susan) of Mamaroneck, New York; Dennis Patrick (Pamela) of San Rafael, California and Timothy Michael (Margaret) of New Canaan; as well as her 18 grandchildren, Mark, Catherine, Julie, Suzanne, Jack, Kate, Tommy, Ryan, Meaghan, Bridget, JP, Conor, Sandra, Colin, Maggie, Dennis, Chris and Mary and 5 great grandchildren, Brendan, Mary Anna, Claire, Aeden, Lucy and a baby girl on the way. Ger will be most remembered for her beautiful smile and her love of God and her family. The family will receive friends at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in New Canaan at 10 am, on Tuesday, June 26th. The wake will be immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am and interment will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan. The Joyce family will also host a luncheon celebrating the life of dear Ger at the Country Club of New Canaan. The family kindly requests that no flowers be sent. Memorial donations may be sent to The Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement at 11440 San Vicente Blvd - Suite 301, Los Angeles, CA 90049 (donate.thewomensalzheimersmovement.org) and San Miguel Academy of Newburgh at 245 Renwick Street, Newburgh NY 12550 (newburghsanmiguel.org).
