Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Farmakis Elizabeth "Betsy" Smith Farmakis passed away early May 31, 2010 from a long battle with lung cancer. Betsy was 79 years old and leaves behind her husband, Jack and three children – John, Debbie and Bill, 7 grandchildren and her brother, Mike Smith and his family. Betsy was a loving mother and spouse and active throughout her whole life. She was a scratch golfer and club champion at courses from PA to CT and NH during her long golf career. She was also very active in lacrosse and along with "B" Lilly was the first coach and founder of the New Canaan, CT high school girl’s lacrosse team. Betsy very much enjoyed watching her grandchildren play girls lacrosse at the high school and collegiate levels. Betsy was born in Cambridge, MA. Her family moved to Wayne, PA where she was active in various school and coaching activities. She met and married Jack and moved to West Norwalk, CT then New Canaan where she lived and was very involved in various school, community and athletic programs for over 30 years. She also spent precious time with family and friends in both Sunapee, NH and Naples, FL. She and Jack recently settled in Redding, CT. Services for Betsy will be held in New Canaan and Sunapee, NH. The memorial service will be at the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan on Friday June 11th at 11:00am.
