Obituary of Jean DiPanni
Jean DiPanni, age 90, of New Canaan, died peacefully Saturday evening April 28, 2018 with her loving sons by her side. She was born in Panni, Italy on August 7, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Maria DeCotiis. She was predeceased by her husband Michael DiPanni who died in 1994.
Jean met her husband (Michael) in Panni, Italy while he was on military leave from Germany. They married in Italy and soon thereafter settled in New Canaan where they started their family. In 1975, together, they opened The Vegetable Barn and Deli which is still currently a landmark in town.
She had a passion for gardening, reading her novels, sewing and especially cooking. The highlight of her life was her family. Doting over her grandchildren gave her the utmost pleasure. She was a devoted catholic and parishioner of St. Aloysius.
Jean is survived by her four sons, Joseph DiPanni (Lynne C. Schulthess) of Norwalk, Robert DiPanni, Michael A. DiPanni Jr. ( Rosanna) and David A. DiPanni (Michelle) all of New Canaan. Two sisters, Josephine DeCotiis and Anna Dibisceglia both of Foggia, Italy and six grandchildren, Michael III, Brianna, Mitchell, Joseph, Sean and Christina. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her brother, Antonio DeCotiis and her sister, Santina Procaccini.
The family would like to recognize her caretaker Merlin Ruiz-Nyakh for the extraordinary care she showed to Jean and the entire family.
