Obituary of Lee Gillespie

Lee Underhill Gillespie, 60, of New Canaan, died Thursday May 20, 2010 at his home. Born November 8, 1949 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Richard H. and Ruth Underhill Gillespie. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Vitale Gillespie of New Canaan, his son Dean P. Gillespie of New Canaan and his brother Richard Gillespie and his wife Diana of New Canaan. He is also survived by his aunts, Jean G. Belsito of Stamford and Jane M. MacLellan of Torrington and his uncle William Beinicke of New York City. He is also survived by cousins: Charles Edward Underhill, Bluffton, SC James Underhill, Danbury CT George (Skip) Underhill, Danbury CT Sharon Bissonnette, Portsmouth RI Gail Pichiarallo, Danbury CT Wesley Underhill, Danbury CT Frederick (Rick) Beinecke, New York City John Beinecke, New York City Frances Elston, New York City Sarah Richardson, New York City He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Upon graduation from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA he received a Masters of Business Administration degree from Iona College, New York. Before retirement, he worked for many years in the banking industry. He was active in the community as a Little League and basketball coach. He was a member of the Woodland Cemetery board and the Oenoke Condomium Association. He enjoyed watching sports with his family and was an avid Yankee, Rangers and Jets fan. He never missed a Yankee game. His hobbies included working on classic cars and meticulously maintaining the family pool and gardening. He was very devoted to his family and his beloved dog, Annie. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at the First Congregational Church of New Canaan, 23 Park St. New Canaan at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan. The family will receive friends at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St. New Canaan on Monday, May 24, 2010 from 4-8 PM.
