Jane Keating Ryan, age 73, a New Canaan resident for over 30 years, died peacefully on Friday, December 15th, with her husband and daughter holding her. She fought a long battle with lung disease and was blessed with the gift of a lung transplant in 2015 which gave her almost three more years to watch her granddaughters grow. Jane was born in New York City on June 9, 1944 to Patrick and Mary Keating. She graduated from St. Clare's Nursing School in 1964 and would go on to work at White Plains Hospital where one night, she would take care of a car accident patient, John W. Ryan. For 19 years, Jane was the corporate nurse for Nestle Foods where she naturally excelled at caring for everyone who passed through her office, making life long friends, and in some cases, saving lives. After she retired, Jane spent the rest of her life enjoying her family and friends, and the many dogs her children brought home to her. She performed countless acts of kindness in her life, often towards perfect strangers. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her husband John William Ryan, her children Michael Jordan O'Grady (Alyson) and Katherine Ryan Haines (Jonathan), and her two granddaughters Lily Keating Haines and Clara Pearl Haines. The family will receive friends on Tuesday the 19th from 5pm to 8pm at Hoyt Funeral Home. 199 Main St., New Canaan.
