Obituary of Virginia Marion
Virginia W. Marion, 94, of New Canaan, CT passed away peacefully on December 9, 2017, at her home. She was born on March 3, 1923, in White Plains, NY, to the late Jacques and Katherine Butze Weber, and was predeceased by her sister, Emily W. Bair of Bloomsburg, PA.
Ginny grew up in Scarsdale, NY and lived there for 49 years. She attended Greenacres School and graduated from Scarsdale High School in 1940. Marion, Jr. (USNA 1941) who was an officer on the submarine USS Cobia during World War II. During the war, Ginny was a volunteer driver for the American Red Cross, which was a prelude to her later involvement as a volunteer with the Red Cross, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the PTA, The Junior League, Meals-on-Wheels, The Greenwich Hospital Blood Bank, and the Captiva, FL Public Library. She loved her NY Times crossword puzzles, needlepoint, and was an accomplished pianist and tennis player, but much of her free time was devoted to her love of animals, especially a lifetime list of much doted on dogs. Ginny was a 37 year resident of New Canaan, and a longtime member of the New Canaan Congregational Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Leslie Marion Jarbeau (Richard), and Meredith Marion, both of Bristol, RI; two sons, James P. Marion, III (Cia) of Westport, CT, and Geoffrey E. Marion (Loretta) of Bristol, RI ; and was “Granny” to 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
