Obituary of Stanley Lacey

Stanley J. Lacey, Jr. 86, a 53 year resident of New Canaan, died Friday, April 30, 2010 at his home. Born October 18, 1923 in Bronxville, NY, he was the son of the late Stanley J. Lacey, Sr. & Rose Bayer Lacey. After graduating high school, he enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corp, during World War II. After Parris Island and assigned to the 4th Marine Division, Private First Class Stanley J. Lacey assaulted the Pacific island chain of Roi-Namar, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. During this last battle on the volcanic rock called Iwo Jima, Private First Class Stanley J. Lacey received a U.S. Naval Citation. This commendation was awarded by Major General C.B. Cates of the 4th Marine Division, for his action under enemy fire on a hostile shore, in helping carry over 200 casualties to a safe debarkation station, after a night time collision just off shore. Once back home, Stanley Lacey started his career in advertising at Norman Craig and Kummel as a art Director and at JWalter Thompson. He finished his successful career at Ted Bates, as SVP/Asst. Director of Commercial Broadcast Productions. His commercial work received numerous awards at the Canne-Venice Festival, Clio’s, Art Director Club and International Broadcast Awards. He is survived by his son, John K. Lacey and his wife Margot of Briarcliff, NY, his two daughters, Virginia A. Gorman of North Kingston, RI, Heather C. Payne and her husband Todd of Bridgewater, CT. His 6 grandchildren, John Paul and James Gorman, Matthew and Danielle Lacey, Amanda and Erica Payne also survive and will miss him. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Aloysius Church, 40 Maple St., New Canaan. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan.
