Obituary of Louise Goodridge

Henrietta Louise Augusta Boldt Goodridge (known as Louise) died at her home in New Canaan on July 21st, 2017 from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Born in New York City on May 9, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Louise Boldt Goodridge and Malcolm Goodridge, Jr. Raised in New Canaan, she was an avid rider and jumper at the Ox Ridge Hunt Club in Darien. She attended New Canaan Country School, Rosemary Hall and graduated from Duchesne College in New York City. Her professional life began at the advertising firm of Ogilvy and Mather in New York but she migrated back to New Canaan to follow her lifelong passion of adventure in the travel business. She set a new standard for travel itineraries as a local travel agent with an emphasis on safaris in Africa and trips around China. Mischievous, with an acute sense of timing, she once invited a golfing partner, who was in the middle of her backswing, to join her on a trip around England. She enjoyed memberships at the Country Club of New Canaan and the New Canaan Garden Club. Her local community involvement was legion, including the New Canaan Nature Center, the Waveny Care Network, Staying Put and the Getabout. She was a parishioner at St. Marks Church and loved volunteering at the Lion’s Den and in later years, she advocated with other New Canaan residents to save our local Bookstore on Elm St. when the Reston family retired. She lived for many years at Hathaway Common and supervised the management details while President of that Association. Recently, she thrived on entertaining friends and relatives, welcoming them into her lovely garden outside her patio door. Louise is survived by her brother, Malcolm Goodridge and his wife Susan of South Carolina, and their children Kate, Charles, Tyson and David Goodridge. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge in New Canaan on September 14th at 11:00 am with a reception following at The Country Club of New Canaan. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Getabout, Inc. (P.O.Box 224, New Canaan) or Staying Put New Canaan (P.O.Box 484, New Canaan) would be appreciated.
