Mildred K. Russell, age 89, a longtime New Canaan resident, died Saturday, September 28, 2013 at her home. Born February 24, 1924, in Utica, NY, she was the daughter of the late Aram and Zahoury Yazejian Kazanjian. Mrs. Russell was the wife of the late William T. Russell, who died in 1977. She was a graduate of Hunter College and was awarded a Master’s Degree from Teachers College at Columbia University. She served for more than twenty five years as the Director of the Youth Employment Service and Career Resource Center at New Canaan High School, and was a member of the New Canaan Youth Commission. Mrs. Russell is survived by her daughters, Catherine Ann Russell and Margaret-Angele Russell, both of New York City; her son, William T. Russell, Jr. and his wife, Helen Gates Russell, and grandchildren William T. Russell III, Aram C. Russell and Margaret E. Russell, of Darien, CT; and a sister, Anna Longobardo, of Bronxville, NY. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church, New Canaan, 178 Oenoke Ridge Rd., New Canaan, CT 06840. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Amagansett Free Library, P.O. Box 2550, Amagansett, NY 11930.
