Obituary of Walter Ruscoe
Walter Ruscoe, 85, of New Canaan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Waveny Care Center. Son of the late Walter and Beatrice (Hunt) Ruscoe, Walt was born in Norwalk, CT on April 9, 1932 and resided in New Canaan his entire life. He graduated from New Canaan High School in 1950 and went on to proudly serve his country in the US Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS New Jersey. He was awarded the Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal (2 Battle Stars), Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and the United Nations Service Medal (Korea).
Walt was involved in many activities in New Canaan throughout his life. He was honored by the New Canaan Old Timers, was post commander for the Veteran of Foreign Wars and was past Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus. Walt was owner of Village Refuse Service of New Canaan for many years. He enjoyed attending many USS New Jersey ship reunions as well as cheering for his favorite team, the New York Yankees.
Walt is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Violet (Malizia) Ruscoe; his children Karen (Ruscoe) Hurlburt and her husband Brad of North Palm Beach, Florida, Walter Ruscoe and his wife Annika of Burlington, Connecticut and Robert Ruscoe and his wife Kathy of Ridgefield, Connecticut; grandchildren Casey and Keenan Hurlburt and Katie and Will Ruscoe; his loving sister Patricia (Ruscoe) Cerullo of Vista, New York as well as many nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law. Walt was predeceased by his brother, Jack Ruscoe.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 1st at Hoyt Funeral Home, New Canaan, between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan on Friday, June 2nd at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corp in memory of Walter J.
