Obituary of Janet Bermingham
Janet M. Bermingham, 90, passed away on May 10, 2017 surrounded by her family and friends.
Born on July 11, 1926, in Brockton Mass., Janet was the only child of William and Jenny Maul. She graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1944 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1948 from Wheaton College Norton, Mass. Her respect and admiration for her education at Wheaton went on for a lifetime, serving in many and various alumnae positions for the college.
Janet met the love of her life, "Johnny" Bermingham in 1949 on a blind date at Princeton University; married him in 1950 and spent the next sixty three years of her life laughing, loving and cherishing him until his death in 2014. They moved to Greenwich, Ct. in 1957, where they lived for 50 years and raised their three children, Leslie, Reeve, and Geoffrey.
Janet's childhood dream of becoming a librarian came true after earning a Masters of Library Science from Pratt Institute. She went on to work in the Greenwich Public School system, first at Central Junior High and then at Greenwich High School.
After 25 years with the public school system, she retired for a week... and then went on to work for another 15 years as a reference librarian at the Greenwich Public Library. Her love for the written word, all things books, and the value of a good library was a testament to her ever curious mind and sharp intellect.
She is survived by her three children; Leslie Madden, Reeve Bermingham and his spouse ,Veronica, Geoffrey Bermingham as well as 5 grandchildren; Luke, Tess, Phoebe, Wickham and William.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan, Ct. on Saturday, May 20th at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations can be made to Waveney Life Care Center.
