Obituary of Amelia Malizia
Amelia “Amy” Nocero Malizia, age 95, long-time resident of New Canaan,
died peacefully at home Sunday evening, March 26, 2017, surrounded by
her loving family.
Born in Norwalk, CT on July 18, 1921, she was the daughter of the late
Morris and Margaret (Fiore) Nocero, both born in Italy.
Amy was the wife of the late James Malizia, who died in 1977.
In her earlier years, Amy spent a lot of time at Calf Pasture Beach in
Norwalk with her friends. She worked at Harlick Bag in South Norwalk as a
young adult. She married her husband James and moved to New Canaan
in 1952, where she raised her two sons. She was a parishioner at St.
Aloysius Church in New Canaan, and had a strong Catholic faith. She
enjoyed cooking homemade pasta and eggplant with her grandchildren,
and taught them many Italian phrases. In her later years, she watched
“Soaps” and the cooking channel, listened to Italian music on her porch,
and enjoyed visits from close family friend Kristen Prosio.
Survivors include her sons James Malizia, Jr. and his wife Ruthann of
Bridgeport;; Carmine Malizia and his wife Lisa and their children Christina,
Kimberly and James of New Canaan;; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers Joseph and Louis (and his wife
Dolores) Nocero.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at
10:00 AM at St. Aloysius Church, New Canaan with interment to follow in
Lakeview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Hoyt Funeral
Home, 199 Main Street, New Canaan on Wednesday evening from 4:00 –
8:00 PM.
