Obituary of Marylyn Flynn

Marylyn E. Flynn, age 75, a Wilton resident for over 40 years died in her home on Tuesday, December 13th after a long illness with her beloved husband Tom and her two sons, Tom and Chris, by her side. Marylyn was born in New York City, on July 8, 1941 to John and Jane Creegan. Marylyn grew up in Riverdale, NY and graduated from St. Gabriels School, and Elizabeth Seton High School in North Yonkers, NY. Upon graduation in 1958, Marylyn was awarded a full academic scholarship to Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY. Following her graduation in 1962 with a BS in Economics, Marylyn was selected to teach at the Marymount International School in Paris, France which also allowed her the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Europe. Returning home, Marylyn embarked on a business career joining Morgan Guarantee as an Executive Assistant to the Senior Vice President of Investments. On Aug 22, 1964 she married Thomas Flynn and subsequently had two sons, Tom born in 1966, and Chris in 1969. Marylyn resigned from Morgan in 1966 and was a stay at home Mom until 1980. During that period, she spent two years in Paris with her family during her husband’s assignment with IBM Europe. Upon return to the U.S. in 1976 the family relocated to Wilton, CT. In 1980, Marylyn resumed her business career when she was offered a position as a Security Analyst for the IBM Pension Fund. For the next 26 years, she held a number of executive positions with IBM Global Finance. Marylyn was selected as a high potential employee and was enrolled in the IBM Graduate MBA program. She graduated from Fordham University’s Graduate School of Business in 1987 with an MBA in Finance with a 3.9 out of 4.0 index. Her academic achievements qualified her for election to the Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma honorary societies. After retirement from IBM, Marylyn and her husband enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe, summer vacations with her family on Martha’s Vineyard, winters in Long Boat Key, FL, and volunteering. To her family and friends, Marylyn will always be remembered for her abiding love, sense of humor, unbelievable courage, and a special devotion since childhood to the Infant Jesus of Prague. Marylyn is survived by her husband Tom, her sons Tom and Chris, sister Joan Elicker and her family, Larry and Mary Walsh and his family, Brothers and Sisters-in-law Jack and Kay Flynn and Philip and Susan Flynn and their families. The family will receive friends at the Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main Street New Canaan from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday December 16th,. A celebratory Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday December 17th, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 229 Danbury Road in Wilton. In lieu of flowers contributions’ may be made to the to the Shrine of the Infant of Prague, St. Mary’s Church, 5 Hillhouse Ave, New Haven, CT 06511.
