Obituary of Kathleen Orr

Kathleen Keahon Orr passed away unexpectedly on November 30, 2016 surrounded by the love of her family. She was born September 3, 1940 in New York, NY to William J. Keahon and Justine Riley Keahon, of Greenwich, CT. She was raised in Bellerose Village, NY and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and Vermont College. She spent most of her adult life in Chevy Chase, MD and Greenwich, CT. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Herbert A. Orr ( Hub) of Greenwich and Stamford, CT. She is also survived by her six children: Erin Orr Williams (Rick) of Hilton Head, SC; Timothy H. Orr (Maria) of New Canaan, CT; Colleen Orr Whitman (Stewart) of Greenwich, CT; Shawn W. Orr (Michelle) of New Canaan, CT; Patrick K. Orr of Greenwich, CT; and Brian J. Orr of Greenwich, CT. She leaves nine Grandchildren: Kai Williams (Kerry), Betten Orr, Asger Orr, Kathleen Whitman, Lane Whitman, Natalie Whitman, Liam Orr, Caleb Orr, and Sumner Orr and two Great Grandchildren: Finn Williams and Isla Williams. She is also survived by her brother William J. Keahon, Jr. of NY and his three children Nora Keahon, Justine Duncan and Josh Keahon, her aunt Jane Keahon of Arizona and her children, and cousins Gerry Renke and Jackie Renke Cassidy of Florida. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law: William Orr (sons Brett and Mark Orr) and David Orr. She also leaves behind many good friends especially Kaia Paasuke. Kathleen known as “Katie” was devoted to her family. She was co-owner and co-founder of U.S. Sterling Capital and U.S. Sterling Securities, financial services companies she conceived together with her husband Hub over 30 years ago; and a successful real estate investor for over 40 years. She was quick-witted, sharp, had a dry sense of humor, and she possessed sound business instincts. Katie was broad-minded and loved learning new ideas and concepts. Katie was energized by the many lectures she attended on topics ranging from philosophy, to religion, to medicine, to finance. She was always researching something: from the best way to manage an investment portfolio, to building the best picnic lunch for an upcoming polo match. She was an avid animal lover and committed to rescuing as many animals as she could. She loved desserts (before dinner) and entertaining, the cinema (especially foreign films), theatre and a good fire on a gray winter day. Katie was a beautiful person both inside and out, and was always impeccable ensembled. The world has lost a great soul and we will miss her so much. Her unconditional love and generosity will always be remembered. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution in the name of Kathleen Keahon Orr to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or an animal rescue organization of your choice. A memorial mass and celebration of Katie’s life will be held in the coming months. Interment will be at St. Mary’s in Greenwich, CT.
