Obituary of Elizabeth Buck
Elizabeth Locke (Sondles) Buck, known by many as B.L., died on October 12, 2016, in Danbury, Connecticut. A long time resident of New Canaan, CT, B.L. was 89 years old. The cause of death was complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.
B.L. was born in Warren, Ohio on Feb 21, 1927, to Merrill Clark Sondles and Elizabeth Locke (Anderson) Sondles. The family moved to Sistersville, W. VA a few years later and B.L. graduated from Sistersville High School in 1945. She attended Goucher College in Towson, MD for two years before transferring to Northwestern University in Evanston, IL from which she graduated in 1948. B.L. married her high school sweetheart, Willis Roome Buck, known as Bill, in 1950, in Sistersville. During his career with Texaco, they lived and traveled in Central and South America for 10 years before settling in New Canaan in 1964. They became members of the New Canaan Country Club, which B.L. continued to enjoy throughout her life. After Bill's death in 1981, B.L. remained in their home and pursued many volunteer activities. She was a member of the Friends of the New Canaan Library, serving as the president in 1980-81. She belonged to the New Canaan Sewing Group and to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild.
B.L is lovingly remembered by her children Willis R. Buck, Jr. and his wife Diane Ross, of Lake Bluff, IL, Elizabeth B. White and her husband Donald White, of Ridgefield, CT, and Amy B. Johnson and her husband Peter Johnson of Los Angeles, CA. She was the beloved "Grandmom" of Emily White, William White (Alyssa), Marie Buck Scott (Dan) and Willis H. Buck. B.L. is survived by her two dear sisters, Nancy Janiszewski (George) of Monroeville, PA and Merilyn Spencer (James) of Glastonbury, CT.
A funeral will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in New Canaan, on Friday, October 21, at 2 p.m.
