Obituary of Charles Wechter

Charles J. Wechter III, age 59, a longtime New Canaan and Norwalk resident, went home to the Lord on July 20, 2016. Born in Buffalo, New York on November 29, 1956, he was the son of the late Charles J. Wechter II and Mary Wechter of New Canaan. The Wechter family moved from Buffalo, NY to New Canaan, CT in 1968. Charles, known as Charlie, attended New Canaan schools from elementary school through his graduation from New Canaan High in 1975. Charlie enjoyed working as a mechanical engineer employed at Hoffman Engineering, Stamford, CT. Mechanically, there weren’t many things that Charlie couldn’t master or, at least, figure out. Even as a young child, he dedicated much of his time to figuring out “how things work”, he called it… He was very innovative, talented and self-taught as a young fellow until attending and graduating from Norwalk Technical College with an Assoc. of Science degree (A.S.) in Mechanical Engineering which he pursued as a career. Charlie was a kind man who touched many peoples’ hearts. He possessed an amazing quality of bringing humor to almost any situation and bringing a smile to your face. Gregarious at times, he also had a reserved private manner – he wasn’t one to burden his friends with his concerns, but preferred to lend a listening ear to others’ instead … and, of course, to interject some of that dry wit & silly humor we all loved. Charlie enjoyed sports with motorcycle riding being one of his favorites – he loved “riding the edge” of those beautiful machines. He also enjoyed spending time at home, out on the porch with his loving wife, Sharon and their chocolate, labrador retriever, Mason. In addition to his wife of over 30 years, Sharon (Ferrara) Wechter of Norwalk CT, he is survived by his sisters Johann Heffner of Ossining, NY, Mary Kaercher of Weston, FL and Margy Rogers of Mesa, AZ as well as many nieces and nephews. We miss you and love you, Charlie. The Reverend Thomas J. Woodhouse officiated at his Catholic Funeral Rite Mass held at Hoyt Funeral Home and also his Rite of Committal and interment at Lakeview Cemetery, both in New Canaan, CT. .
