Obituary of Margaret Cousins

Margaret W. Cousins, age 99, a longtime New Canaan resident died Monday June 20, 2016 in Danbury Hospital. Born in Washington, D.C. July 22, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Gertrude Coakley Cannon. Margaret was the wife of the late Warren Cousins who died in 1981. Margaret worked for many years as a church administrator for the First Church of Round Hill in Greenwich and before that as administrator of The Congregational Church of New Canaan. She also worked at the New Canaan Library. During World War II she worked in the “tool girl department” for Edo Aircraft in Long Island City, New York. Margaret was involved in numerous volunteer activities including two stints as treasurer of the New Canaan Woman’s Club, volunteer work for the New Canaan YMCA, cooking for a soup kitchen and helping at an after-school program in Norwalk. Margaret was an avid reader, a talented bridge player, crossword puzzle enthusiast and member of the church choir. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Margaret is survived by her son W. James Cousins, Jr. and his wife Mimi of Danbury, CT and their son Ryan, a stepdaughter Mary Anne Bruchez and her husband Raymond and their daughter Julie, her sister Jeanne Kaffenberger and seven nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Joseph Cannon, Jr. and his wife Jay, and by her brother-in-law Karl Kaffenberger. A Memorial Service will be held on July 9 at 1:00 P.M. at the First Church of Round Hill, 464 Round Hill Rd, Greenwich, CT. Interment will be private.
