Obituary of John Carroll
John Otis Carroll, 82, of New Canaan, died Friday night in Norwalk Hospital. He was the husband of Ruth Ogden Carroll of New Canaan.
Mr. Carroll, son of the late Ralph C. and Dorothy Smith Carroll, was born October 4, 1927. He attended Rye Country Day School, the Taft School and Yale University. He also studied industrial design and accounting at the University of Bridgeport.
A resident of New Canaan since 1973, Mr. Carroll was an ardent golfer and longtime member of the Apawamis Club and the Country Club of New Canaan. His love of golf was matched by his lifelong fascination with trains and airplanes. A talented maker of plastic models, he owned & operated the Hobby House in Greenwich for many years.
Mr. Carroll was predeceased by his brothers Ralph, Jr., W. Curtis, Livingston and James. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons John Otis Jr. of Newcastle, ME and Ogden of North Stonington, CT, two grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 22 at 11:00 AM at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in New Canaan.
